Fresh drinking water has always been first on the settler's mind and now homesteaders are thinking more about it as underground supplies get less dependable. Old timers in the Ozarks built towns around a good water supply, and there is nothing more satisfying than a drink of fresh, cold water from the source.

When my grandparents bought Indian land in the 1960's there was a shallow well right next to the house that had the best tasting water. They used if for several years until it became evident that shallow water supplies were no longer safe to use.
I'm really excited about the prospect of making good drinking water from the air. We've done it for years now right from the drain of our air conditioners, but no one uses it for drinking. Most folks know this water is great for watering house plants because it's “soft”, meaning it has no minerals in it.
Condensed water from air conditioners is OK to drink as long as you keep the coils and drain clean, but no one really does that for the sake of sanitation. Also air conditioning units are expensive to run, making them impractical for water production.
No, what we need is a unit that makes water from the air without grid power. Some kind of unit that naturally harvests water from the air, and if it needs any electrical power to do it, it must run on available solar power. If you are like me, you may have seen such a device on Facebook.
Problem is, just because you see it on Facebook doesn't mean you can buy one. For right now the best types of units available are called “Water From Air” (WFA) and are pretty expensive. There are, however some countertop models priced reasonably.
Let's all keep watching the market and see if something becomes available that will make drinking water from our humid air and do it without using expensive electrical power. If you have seen any good products please post your comment here.
Thanks,
