Solar Outdoor Lighting Can Be Used For Emergency Indoor Lighting

Here in the Ozarks the power can go out without any warning, and if it's dark outside then it gets really dark inside. You scramble for the flashlights and look for the kerosene lanterns. If your family is like mine then somebody has been playing with all the flashlights and there's no hope finding them on short notice.

Solar cells and LEDs share many characteristics. Cutting the tether from the outdoor light fixture to the electric grid is akin to what happened in the telecommunications market with the advent of the cellular phone. LED bulbs are conceptually solar cells in reverse – solid-state devices converting electricity into light. By combining them we create wireless, solid-state lighting. LED's produce directional beams of light, up to 90% of which is usable for ambient lighting, making them just the ticket for emergency outdoor use.

Solar-powered lighting consists of a solar panel or photovoltaic cell that collects the sun's energy during the day and stores it in a rechargeable gel cell battery. The intelligent controller senses when there is no longer any energy from the sun and automatically turns the LED light on using a portion of the stored energy in the rechargeable battery. Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are a solid-state, directional light source that produce light very efficiently, making it ideal for solar powered lighting applications. Although most people think of LEDs as indicator lighting, there are types of LEDs specifically designed for general illumination applications.

Solar Outdoor lighting is such a good use of resources and technology. We keep a collection of products in the Ozark Country Homestead store that you may not be able to find around town.
